On the brick, these steps are each faced with one single slab of stone to match the garden retaining wall.
These steps are also built from brick and faced with stone. However, here, several stones are used for each step. You can see the consistancy of thickness that can be achieved.
This is a large, raised, flowerbed, and stone has been used to provide a retaining wall with sufficient weight to restrain a mass of wet soil. It also provides a more "natural" feel than brick or concrete.
This example of a waterfall constructed from our stone was just built when the photo was taken, so there is very little plant life to be seen. Once plants are added the stone tends to "retreat" to a less prominent appearance.
